Adverse Childhood Experience’s (ACE)
Twenty years ago, Kaiser Permanente Health Network in California asked questions about childhood trauma events. In this class, details of this study and of the impact of trauma across the lifespan are considered. Participants will learn what toxic stress is and the variety of ways individuals relate to it.

Resiliency
Resiliency is the ability to bounce back or rise above adversity whether an individual, family, community or provider. Resiliency is more than innate hardiness it includes the process of using available resources to negotiate hardship and/or the consequences of adverse events. In this class, we will look at behavioral signs of trauma and recognize signs of secondary traumatic stress. Strategies and resources for building resiliency in self and supporting it in others will be explored.

Trauma Informed Care & Organizations
A trauma-informed approach is a strength-based service delivery approach that is grounded in an understanding of and responsiveness to the impact of trauma that emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both providers and survivors. This class provides principles for students to implement in their respective settings, schools, churches, medical services, supportive services or families.
